A NEW ROSE SERIES
Spring in our Valley brings hope for warm days and fragrant rose blossoms! I love working in a series - painting multiple pieces of the same subject to dive deeper into the magic of the rose. With each new painting, I discover something new: a new color; a different brush for a new effect; an unusual tool for mark-making; scraping off and repainting - and the effects you can create; realizing the beauty of imperfection - it doesn't want to be perfect!; and it's OK to scrape all the paint off and begin again! After all, it's about revealing the magic of the rose (or whatever else you are painting), not to create a perfect photo rendition of the rose. Each of these is available on this website under florals.

And then sometimes, my muse pushes me over the edge - convincing me that the image of the rose, is sometimes not important. It's the feeling or my response to being in the company of the rose - and an abstract image appears! We artists must be on the lookout when that happens, and recognize the magic and not cover it up! ... as in "A Floral Obsession," 9x12 oil on panel.
